NOTICE OF ADOPTED ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS PREVIOUSLY APPROVED
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Village Board of the Village of Birchwood, Washburn County, Wisconsin, previously approved the following ordinance amendments at its duly noticed meeting held on February 19, 2025. Due to administrative oversight, these ordinances were not published following approval as required by law. This notice is provided to complete publication requirements and to give formal notice of adoption.
The ordinance amendments are summarized as follows:
Ordinance Amendment No. 6‑2025
Article II – Village Government and Elections
Sec. 2‑23 Number of Election Officials
This ordinance amends Section 2‑23 to provide that there shall be seven (7) election inspectors for each polling place at every village election. The ordinance further authorizes the Village Board to change the number of election officials by resolution pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 7.32, and permits the Municipal Clerk to select two or more sets of election officials to work at different times on election day pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 7.30(1)(a).
Ordinance Amendment No. 7‑2025
Chapter 2 – Governing Body
Article III, Division 4 – Standing Committees
This ordinance amends Section 2‑154 to establish the following standing committees of the Village Board:
- Public Works Committee
- Police Committee
Ordinance Amendment No. 8‑2025
Chapter 2 – Village Boards, Commissions and Committees
This ordinance removes Division 5 – Parks Committee and creates Division 5 – Public Works Committee.
The Public Works Committee shall be comprised of two trustees and three citizen members. The Committee is charged with overseeing, at the direction of the Committee Chairperson or Village Board, the construction, maintenance, and repair of village public works projects, including parks, streets, water, and sewer systems. Compensation for committee members shall be established by the Village Board at the organizational meeting in April.
Ordinance Amendment No. 9‑2025
Chapter 2 – Village Boards, Commissions and Committees
Division 6 – Police Committee
This ordinance creates Division 6 – Police Committee. The Police Committee shall be comprised of three members, none of whom may be elected or appointed village officials or village employees, pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 62.13(6m).
The Police Committee shall perform duties as provided under Wis. Stat. § 62.13(5) and (6m). Compensation for committee members shall be established by the Village Board at the organizational meeting in April.
Ordinance Amendment No. 23‑2024
Chapter 28 – Zoning
This ordinance amends Section 28‑2 (Definitions) to add a definition for Short‑Term Home Rental, consistent with Wis. Stat. § 66.0615(1)(dk), and amends Division 4 – RD Rural Development District to remove single‑family dwellings as a permitted use.
Ordinance Amendment No. 24‑2024
Chapter 28 – Zoning
Section 28‑8 – Compliance
This ordinance amends Section 28‑8 to provide that an extension of up to twenty‑four (24) months may be granted by the Planning Commission upon a showing of good cause.
Ordinance Amendment No. 26‑2024
Chapter 28 – Zoning
Section 28‑74 – Dimensional Requirements
This ordinance amends lot dimensional requirements to establish a minimum lot area of 7,000 square feet and a minimum lot width of 50 feet, with reference to Section 28‑8.
All ordinance amendments listed above were approved on February 19, 2025, and shall take effect upon this publication, as required by law. Full copies of these ordinances are available for inspection at the Village Clerk’s office during regular business hours or upon request.
