VILLAGE OF BIRCHWOOD
WASHBURN COUNTY, WISCONSIN
NOTICE OF ADOPTED ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Village Board of the Village of Birchwood adopted the following ordinance amendments at its duly noticed meeting held on May 12, 2026. These ordinances take effect upon passage and publication as required by law.
Ordinance Amendment No. 11-2026
Amending Chapter 14 – Fire Prevention and Protection (Campground Fire Prevention Standards)
This ordinance creates Section 14-147 of the Village Code to establish fire prevention standards for public and private campgrounds within the Village. The ordinance:
- Requires campgrounds to be maintained free of litter and flammable materials to reduce fire hazards;
- Requires at least one accessible and operable ABC-rated fire extinguisher in campground buildings;
- Establishes standards for campfires, including containment requirements and minimum setback distances from camping units, structures, and vehicles, with limited exemptions for older sites;
- Requires grills provided by campground operators to be maintained in safe operating condition;
- Provides for enforcement by the Fire Chief and establishes penalties for violations consistent with the Village Code.
